Questions & answers
For passports from outside the EU
Visas, the TIE and its fingerprints, family cards, Brexit and the end of the golden visa.
I am not an EU citizen. What is my route to living in Murcia?
Usually a visa from a Spanish consulate before the move, for work, study, family or your own means, then the TIE once you are here. Without a visa you can visit, but not settle.
Where are TIE fingerprints taken in the region?
policia.es lists TIE issuance at Cabezo Cortado and at the comisarías of Molina de Segura, Cartagena, Lorca and Yecla. You book the huellas through the cita previa system.
What does the non-lucrative residence involve?
It is for people who live on their own income or savings without working in Spain. You request the visa at a consulate with proof of means and private health insurance, then get your TIE in Murcia.
Is the golden visa still an option?
No. Spain ended the investor residence route in 2025. Buying a home no longer gives you a residence permit.
I am British. Am I treated as non-EU?
Yes, since Brexit. Residence that began before the UK left stays protected by the Withdrawal Agreement, and the TIE mentions it; later arrivals take the usual non-EU steps.
My spouse is an EU citizen. Is there a simpler route?
Quite possibly, unless your spouse is Spanish: the family card applied for on form EX-19. In Murcia it is handled by the Delegación’s foreigners’ office at Cabezo Cortado.
Can I leave Spain while my TIE renewal is in progress?
Ask for a return authorisation before travelling. The Brigada Provincial at Cabezo Cortado lists it among its procedures.
