Questions & answers
For EU, EEA and Swiss passports
Registering as a resident, the green certificate and the number that comes with it.
I am an EU citizen moving to Murcia. Where do I start?
Staying beyond three months? Begin with the green certificate, form EX-18. It registers you as a resident and shows your NIE. For a shorter stay, or before you settle, the plain NIE with form EX-15 is enough.
Which offices issue the green certificate in the region?
policia.es lists the EU regime at the Brigada Provincial at Cabezo Cortado and at the comisarías of Molina de Segura, Cartagena, Lorca and Yecla. Your cita previa names the office.
What proof of means do I need?
It depends on your situation: a work contract or self-employment registration; or enough resources and health cover; or university enrolment with health cover and resources. No fixed amount is quoted on this site: the office assesses your file.
Do my children need their own certificate?
Yes. Each family member registers separately, with their own form, fee and appointment, even when you go in together.
Is the padrón required for the green certificate?
Offices commonly ask for a padrón certificate, so register with the town hall first. In Murcia that means the Servicio de Estadística or a municipal information and registration office.
I hold a Swiss or Norwegian passport. Is my route different?
It is the same one. Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland ride along with the EU here: green certificate to live here, NIE for everything else.
Can I work while I wait for my appointment?
EU citizens can work from the start. Your employer will still need your NIE to register you with social security, so book it early.
