How a child gets the number
A parent signs the form on the child’s behalf and comes along with the child’s passport. EU families usually register the children with them for the EX-18 green certificate; non-EU families get each child a TIE linked to the parents’ permit, starting with the toma de huellas.
Bring the birth certificate, translated and legalised when the authorities ask for it, to show who the parents are. With two parents, check whether both need to sign or be present. Then book one slot per person on the cita previa website, one after the other.
Children on the padrón
Murcia town hall asks for a minor’s passport, or NIE, to add them to the padrón. Both parents sign the registration form; where parentage is not clear, the town hall uses its own form for the responsible adult’s declaration.

In Murcia
Families settling in Santa Eulalia, San Antolín or the towns of the Vega usually book back-to-back appointments at Cabezo Cortado, then register everyone on the padrón at the Servicio de Estadística or a municipal information office the same week.
Questions people ask
Does a newborn in Murcia need a NIE?
Yes, in time. A baby born here to foreign parents is registered at the civil registry first; the residence paperwork that follows gives the child a number.
Can a child go without a parent?
No. A parent or legal guardian applies for a minor and attends with them.
