Booking the right appointment
The Servicio de Estadística sees people by cita previa, booked on murcia.es or by phone on 010, or 968 22 95 49 from outside the municipality. It offers two kinds of appointment: one for registering, leaving or changing address, and one for certificates, foreigners’ renewals and enquiries. Choose the wrong kind and you will not be served.
Since 23 September 2024, registrations and changes of address can also be filed at any information and registration office, such as Plaza de Europa; the data is entered the following day. Those offices have their own preferential cita previa.

The documents
- The registration form, completed and signed by everyone who registers
- Identity: EU citizens a passport or national ID card; foreigners with a residence permit their NIE; others a passport
- Owners: the deed, the last IBI receipt or a recent water, gas, electricity or landline bill in their name
- Tenants: the rental contract in force and a copy of the landlord’s identity document, or a recent utility bill in the tenant’s name
- Neither owner nor tenant: the form signed by someone already registered there, or by the owner, plus a copy of that person’s ID and a deed, contract or bill in their name

Renewing as a foreign resident
EU citizens, and non-EU citizens with a permanent or EU family card, confirm their registration every two years, or every five if they appear in the Registro Central de Extranjeros. Non-EU residents without permanent residence renew every two years, or the registration can lapse. The town hall sends a notice three months ahead.

In Murcia
The padrón of Murcia belongs to the town hall, not the police. Once registered, ask for a certificate or a volante: the offices of the region often want one for the EX-18 green certificate, or the toma de huellas of a TIE.
Questions people ask
Do I need the padrón before my NIE?
Not for the number itself, but the green certificate and the TIE often ask for a padrón certificate, so registering early helps.
Is there a phone line for padrón questions?
Yes: Murcia town hall gives 900 222 900 for padrón procedures, alongside the general 010 line.
I live in Molina de Segura, not Murcia. Does this apply?
Not as written: each municipality keeps its own padrón. The idea is the same, but book with your own town hall and follow its rules.
